The Loneliest Crucifixion

This is truly a trip of pilgrimage for those who wish to experience something quite unique.
Once onboard our luxurious cruiser ‘Louise of Granton’ LA Marine will take you out onto the water and past the beautiful islands of Cumbrie and Arran. Then its on through the waters of the Kilbrannan Sound on the west coast of the Kintyre peninsula to finally arrive at the fishing village of Cambeltown.
Within walking distance from our berth in Cambeltown lies a remote island, the island of Davvar.
It is here on Davvar Island and only at low tide, that there is pedestrian access to the island and to a very isolated sea cave. Inside the sea cave there is the most unusual painting of a crucifixion to be found.
Painted over 120 years ago by a local teacher who claimed he had a dream in which he was shown where to paint and told what to paint, his work has become a point of pilgrimage for people from all over the world and there are many markers and crosses which have been left in and around the cave that testify to their visit to this most unusual of art galleries.
