Doon the Water

The Victorians coined this phrase when Glasgow was the first city of the empire and in order to get away from the bustle and pressure of city life, they would sail “Doon the water” to their extravagant holiday homes. It is a route that vast sailing ships of the likes of Cutty Sark travelled carrying their global cargos back and forth on the world famous River Clyde.
With LA Marine you to can relive this journey. Starting in the centre of Glasgow your trip will be a unique exploration of a world famous river that will feature many highlights. Highlights such as the remains of a 20,000 ton sugar ship which foundered in a storm, its wreck still clearly visible today; Dumbarton Rock and Castle, once capital of ancient Scotland; a unique view of the underside of the Erskine Bridge and the historic Glasgow docklands, that in its past have built and launched famous ships like the historic Queen Mary and today is seeing the construction and launch of the latest in stealth destroyers and aircraft carriers for the Royal Navy.
All of this is topped off with the a traditional ‘fish and chips’ lunch in Rothsay on the Island of Bute before we return you and your guests by boat to the hustle and bustle of Glasgow city centre.
